Roto Molding of Polyvinyl Seat Bellows for the Trucking Industry

A client specializing in high-end air ride seats for the trucking industry was in need of a flexible seat bellow to encompass the bottom of their seating systems. After consulting Rhino, Inc. it was determined a poly-vinyl compound would best meet the functional specification of the part while still delivering the performance characteristics the client was looking for. The process involved the manufacturing of a CNC machined aluminum mold that would mold the part in such a way that the accordion type flexibility would be sustained. Post mold finishing of the part included flash trimming and cutouts for attachment and assembly, requiring no secondary operations from the client.

The part measured 19.25 inches long, 9.94 inches ...

Roto Molding of Surpass HDPE Chemical Tanks for the Medical Industry

A customer in the medical and dental industry approached Rhino, Inc. in need of roto-molding of a surpass HDPE chemical tank. The tank was to be used as a component in a cleaning machine which would chemically sanitize surgical and dental tools. We worked closely with the client to fulfill all requirements and expectations. Our in-house design engineer and operations manager gave input as to the modifications necessary to more easily manufacture the part.

We expertly performed roto-molding and mold manufacturing. The manufacturing process involved CNC machining of the aluminum mold in our tooling shop, American Roto Tool. Additionally, we cut and fit three components from a single part.

The material used for the tank ...

CNC Machining of Aluminum Solution Tank Rotational Molding Tool

A client in the manufacturing industry approached Rhino, Inc. in need of a CNC machined aluminum mold, which was to be used in the rotational molding process. The mold would be mounted on a ferry machine arm.

Our skilled team designed the product using SolidWorks software. Using input from our engineer designer and operations manager, along with analysis of the parting line position, we created a plan optimizing the mold's ability while minimizing tool pieces. After designing the part, we applied CNC machining, then welded the components together.

The mold was made of aluminum finished with 330 shot peen. It had a tongue and groove parting line. It weighed 800 pounds, and the overall dimension of the framing material ...

Rotational Molding of MDPE Forced Air Housing Shell for the HVAC Industry

A client in the solar heating industry came to Rhino, Inc. for design assistance and manufacturing of an MDPE forced air housing with an insulating EPS foam core. The housings were to be used in a solar collection forced air heating system. Once we determined performance and functional specifications we began working on mold design and manufacturability specifications. With tooling complete, we moved right into production. Secondary processes involved trimming of parting lines, application of graphics, and inserting/forming the EPS foam core.

The housing exteriors were made of MDPE, and the interior cavity consisted of EPS foam. A 550 shot peen finish was applied to the exterior surface of the part, and a mill finish interior ...

Rotational Molding of MDPE Sailboat Hull for the Nautical Industry

A client in the nautical industry approached Rhino, Inc. in need of a rotationally molded sailboat hull and outriggers. The hull and outriggers would be key components of a high performance recreational sailboat. In addition to part production, Rhino performed mold maintenance upon receipt of the tool to correct some manufacturing issues that had plagued the former molder. Secondary operations included post mold trimming, hatch trim and fit-up, and cleat/accessory assembly. Special features incorporated were a molded in aluminum outrigger and rudder sleeves and multi-color mold-in graphics.

The hull was 192 inches long, 40 inches high, 24 inches wide and weighed 100 pounds. We worked within tolerances of +/- .144 inches. The ...

Rotational Molding of Nylon Air Intake Resonator for the Power Generation Industry

A client in the mobile power generation industry came to Rhino, Inc. for rotational molding of a nylon air intake resonator. The resonator was to be used for regulating air intake for gasoline powered generators. Our team of experts manufactured the mold and the cutting fixtures allowing us to meet the tight tolerance specifications. Multiple kiss-offs and high temperature airflow design were among the special features we achieved with this project.

The completed nylon 12 intake resonator had a 330 shot peen texture applied. The part measured 274 mm long, 79.5 mm high and 200 mm wide. The temperature range for this part was up to 250 degrees F. We worked within tolerances of =/- 1.0 mm. Meticulous testing involved air leak ...
